• Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) has introduced Pink Squad, comprising women security personnel trained in martial arts, in its security set up as an additional measure to provide safe and secured commuting experience to its women commuters CMRL is already providing full CCTV coverage of trains and stations.
• However, with increasing ridership and crowd in the metro trains, apart from providing full CCTV coverage of stations and trains, it has
  become necessary to keep greater watch and vigil to prevent incidents of eve teasing and other offences against women.
• The pink squad will cover this additional security requirement for women commuters.
• Apart from being well trained in martial arts and self-defence techniques, the Pink squad members are also trained in customer service and communication skills.

“THE PINK SQUAD” – Chennai Metro Rail’s pioneering step for Women Safety

Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) proudly introduced “Pink Squad”, a first-of –its kind initiative in India that a team deployed to provide safe and secured commuting experience to the female passengers.

The Pink Squad comprises of 23 female security guards and are well-trained in martial arts. They are deployed at crowded metro stations during peak hours and shall travel in metro stations to ensure safer environment for women passengers in Chennai Metro Rail. The Pink Squad is outsourced to M/s CISB Services Pvt Ltd, a Pan India ISO certified company and commenced services in Chennai Metro Rail from 15-02-2024 onwards.

This historical launching event was chaired by Thiru. M.A.Siddique, IAS – MD, CMRL in presence of Thiru. T. Archunan, Director -Projects, Thiru, Rajesh Chaturvedi, Director (Systems & Operations), Tmt. H. Jayalakshmi, IPS – Chief Security Officer and senior officials and staff of CMRL.

The Pink Squad members are trained in self-defense techniques. Additionally, The Pink Squad members are trained in customer service and communication skills also.

The Pink Squad will become a model for other public transportation systems in India and around the world. The Pink Squad will become a testament to the Chennai Metro Rail Limited’s commitment to providing a safe and secure environment for all passengers.
